Welcome to the first great event of IOGT in 2015!
Saturday, January 24th at Thon Slottsparken hotel in Oslo, Norway
We have brought together an exciting group of experts, members and volunteers active in prevention work. They come from three continents, and will share stories about how they work to prevent problems related to alcohol and other drugs in their countries.
With this line-up of speakers, and together with the participants, we We hope this Saturday will provide perspective on the work we do ourselves and make us better acquainted with how IOGT works in different cultures with our questions.
Kristina Sperkova is newly elected President of IOGT International. She has previously worked in the European youth organisation Active – sobriety, friendship and peace and for the IOGT-NTO-movement in Sweden. Kristina will open the seminar with her thoughts about the role IOGT has on the prevention field.
Pupudu Sumanasekara is working as Executive Director for ADIC Sri Lanka, which has worked with innovative prevention-programs in Sri Lanka for over 15 years. ADIC has won several prevention prizes over the years and was awarded “NGO of the year” in Sri Lanka in 2013. At the seminar he will present the methods they use. He is also Vice President of IOGT Internatinoal.
Brenda Mkwesha is working for IOGT-NTO movement`s Regional office in East-Africa where they have recently finished a study about the attitudes to alcohol in the region. Brenda will present these findings and tell the story of a changing alcohol culture in East Africa. She is also Board Members of IOGT International.
Dag Endal works in the norwegian development organization FORUT with the projekt ADD – Alcohol, Drugs and Development, but also has a lot of experience with prevention work in Norway. Dag will talk tell about this, and he will outline the road ahead concerning prevention.
In addition to these four speakers our seminar features a line-up of active leaders in the field of prevention and promotion of an alcohol-free life: Eric Tegnander, President of UNF, the Swedish Youth Temperance Association, will talk about how UNF has learned from and transferred the prevention approach from ADIC Sri Lanka to a Nordic context. Adis Arnautovic from CEM, the Center for Youth Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vanja Kalaba from CZOR, the Center for Youth Work in Serbia and Mirek Marutschke from IOGT Poland will present how they prevent alcohol use and makes it easier to take alcohol-free choices.
All IOGT-members are welcome. The seminar is free of charge for members, and costs 400 NOK for non-members. Unfortunately we are not able to cover traveling outside of Norway. But we are glad to be able to cover the costs for the cheapest fare inside the country. During the day there also will be a lunchbuffe.
